The Mechanical Engineer 1 is responsible for assisting with designing, analyzing, and improving mechanical systems and components, specifically for UAS platforms. They collaborate with a team of engineers to develop innovative solutions and ensure projects are completed within budget and on schedule. The role involves creating and modifying 3D CAD models, maintaining Bills of Materials, supporting engineering changes, and working with manufacturing and suppliers to resolve fabrication issues.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies for UAS platforms.
- Create and modify 3D CAD models and engineering drawings.
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and associated product documentation.
- Support engineering changes, drawing revisions, and configuration management.
- Assist with material, hardware, and commercial component selection.
- Support prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, and design improvements.
- Work with manufacturing and suppliers to resolve fabrication and assembly issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop reliable, manufacturable UAS systems.
Requirements
- Basic understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering fundamentals.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, or similar.
- Ability to create and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with Bills of Materials (BOMs), engineering changes, and configuration management.
- Basic understanding of structural, thermal, and mechanical analysis concepts.
- Knowledge of Manufacturing Processes, CNC Machining, and 3D Printing
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 1+ years experience in mechanical engineering or a related field
- 1+ years experience with Solidworks or similar applications
