The UAS Flight Autonomy System Engineer will architect and uphold the systems engineering and verification framework for a flight autonomy demonstrator. Responsibilities include defining system requirements, maintaining traceability, shaping V&V strategy, and coordinating cross-team efforts. The role is central to ensuring the flight autonomy system is robustly defined, implemented, and verified.
Responsibilities
- Requirements & Traceability: Lead the generation and decomposition of clear, testable system requirements using MBSE tools (e.g., Simulink Requirements). Maintain rigorous end-to-end traceability from concept to flight-test evidence.
- MBSE Architecture: Develop and maintain functional, logical, and physical architectures using MATLAB System Composer. Ensure consistency across software baselines, ICDs, and hardware interfaces.
- V&V Strategy & Execution: Define the system-level Verification & Validation strategy. Allocate testing methods across MIL, SIL, PIL, HIL, ground, and flight-test operations.
- Testing & Data Analysis: Coordinate requirements-based testing. Lead post-test assessments of recorded flight data, managing anomalies and compliance matrices.
- Cross-Team Coordination: Act as the central link between systems engineering, software development, safety, hardware integration, and the flight-test crew.
Requirements
- ## Aerospace Pedigree: Strong background in systems engineering, integration, or V&V within aerospace, UAS, avionics, or autonomous systems.
- ## MBSE Toolkit: Deep familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink tools (System Composer, Simulink Requirements, Simulink Test/Coverage) or equivalents (DOORS, Polarion, Cameo).
- ## Testing Savvy: Hands-on experience with SIL/HIL environments and translating operational scenarios into ground/flight-test procedures.
- ## Tech & Standards: Understanding of embedded systems, interfaces (ROS2/DDS), scripting (MATLAB/Python), and safety/development standards (ARP4754A, DO-178C).
- ## The Mindset: A holistic "big-picture" thinker who thrives in fast-paced, agile environments. You value transparency, humility, and have a healthy impatience for driving progress.
- ## Willingness to have fun
