The Eurodrone Overall RPAS Design Chief Engineer leads the overall design and steering activities for the Eurodrone Remotely Piloted Aircraft System, ensuring a consistent design and integration across all functions and throughout the entire lifecycle, in compliance with top-level system requirements. The role steers the flight chain — Ground Safety Critical Control Station, Flight Management System, Safe Flight and Landing System — as an integral part of the overall RPAS design. Working within Airbus Defence and Space's Overall RPAS Design Team and Chief Engineering Organization, the position drives trades, candidate configurations, technical baselines and design changes, and coordinates Flight Physics activities. The role also leads the certification and qualification roadmap in alignment with customers and regulatory bodies, securing programme milestones and end-to-end readiness.
Responsibilities
- Optimize design for the overall RPAS and ensure integration of all level 1 sub-products.
- Perform trades & candidate aircraft configurations associated to RPA and flight chain architectures & requirements.
- Coordinate the flight chain design (GSCCS, FMCS, FMAIS, SFLS), ensuring consistent safety-critical design.
- Ensure RPA compliance with airworthiness and safety, environmental conditions, design maturity, security and RPAS airport operations at the aircraft level.
- Control the RPA and flight chain technical baseline and design changes, Assessing the consequences of technical Change Requests on overall RPAS architecture and aircraft configuration, ensuring configuration maturity aligns with programme milestones and safety objectives.
- Lead the definition of the certification and qualification roadmap for in close alignment with customer and regulatory bodies.
- Integrate and coordinate Flight Physics activities (performance, HQ, loads) and drive flight chain consistent solutions into the overall configuration.
- Achieving the handling quality requirements for the RPAS failure free and for failure cases.
- Secure the project schedule to achieve the program milestones, align technical directives to all design teams, ensuring end to end readiness.
- Ensure integration and verification plans and activities to achieve final certification and qualification; from analysis and simulation through systems testing and completed at Flight Test Level.
Requirements
- Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
- Significant Engineering experience > 8 years in related area.
- You have excellent leadership skills and profound experience in leading teams.
- Deep knowledge of Flight Dynamics, Flight Mechanics and Flight Control Laws.
- Extensive experience in the development of Flight Control Systems.
- Experience in the development of DAL-A software.
- Knowledge in Overall Aircraft Design, Overall System Design and Overall Physical Design.
- Operational knowledge on UAS or aircraft Operation, in particular Automatic Take Off and Landing.
- Proven track record in project management and technical management.
- Excellent coordination and communication skills.
- Goal-oriented mind set and good analytical skills.
- Very strong team player.
- Exceptional English language skills (Negotiation Level).
