This role is for an Applied Scientist on the Amazon Prime Air Team, focusing on developing simulations for traffic management algorithms for autonomous drone flights. The scientist will contribute to a portfolio of simulation tools for managing concurrent airspace traffic, developing new methodologies in conflict detection and resolution, and building related software systems for package delivery at scale. The role involves substantial software development in prototyping and production environments, driving projects from concept through development.
Responsibilities
- The primary focus of this role will be on modeling traffic management frameworks that use a layered conflict detection and resolution strategy to ensure safe and efficient flight operations. This will include developing fundamental simulation infrastructure code, including discrete event simulation tooling. In addition, it will involve developing expert knowledge of the layers of mitigation and conducting in-depth scientific research on alternative solutions for conflict resolution. The candidate will contribute to significant and impactful systems that will provide value for Amazon customers and will drive these projects from the concept stage through development. This role will include substantial software development in prototyping and production environments.
Requirements
- 3+ years of building models for business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
- Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing ### Preferred qualifications
Nice to have
- Experience using Unix/Linux
- Experience in professional software development
