This role is for a Software Development Engineer II on the Amazon Prime Air team, focused on building and optimizing drone-delivery systems. The engineer will develop deep expertise in the drone-delivery workflow, design scalable distributed systems, and drive improvements in code quality and engineering practices. They will collaborate with product managers and partner teams to define requirements and troubleshoot complex production issues to improve system stability.
Responsibilities
- - Develop deep expertise in the drone-delivery workflow and continuously drive workflow and drone-flight scheduling optimizations to improve delivery speed and overall throughput.
- - Design and build scalable, highly available distributed systems that meet strict performance, reliability, extensibility, and maintainability standards.
- - Drive improvements in code quality, design patterns, and engineering best practices, mentoring junior engineers and raising the technical bar for the team.
- - Collaborate with PMs, internal customers, and partner teams to define technical requirements, clarify trade-offs, and deliver customer-focused outcomes.
- - Troubleshoot complex production issues, perform deep root-cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes to improve system stability and operational health.
Requirements
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field ### Preferred qualifications
Nice to have
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Master's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience communicating with customers, technical, regulatory, business teams, and management to collect requirements, describe product features, and technical designs
- Experience with programming, design, architecture with AWS or other cloud technologies

- The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
