Anduril Industries is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join its Manufacturing team at the Anduril Composites branch in North Carolina. The role involves hands-on work with technicians and engineers to build novel composite parts and assemblies, owning the manufacturability of products in the design phase, and driving initial builds of composite components and tooling. The engineer will create and release manufacturing documentation, shape cross-functional communication, and solve manufacturing problems in a schedule-driven environment. The position also includes developing manufacturing processes to lower risk as products move from prototype to full-rate production.

Responsibilities

  • Work with technicians and other engineers hands-on, building novel designs of anything between a Group 1 UAVs to an XL-UAV with a focus on appropriate composite design and manufacturing methods in mind
  • Own the shaping of novel products that are in the initial design phase to guide decision points that enable higher level of manufacturability prior to initial design release
  • Drive the initial builds of composite components and tooling in close conjunction with other cross functional teams (Design, Quality, Program Management, Supply Chain, etc)
  • Create, review, and release manufacturing documentation, such as work instructions, MBOMs, quality plans, inspection requirements, non-conformances to align with overarching facility and program objectives
  • Shape communication lines for cross functional alignment. ie communication between the engineering technical data packages and the technicians to ensure composite hardware and tooling are manufactured as designed/analyzed
  • Identify and solve manufacturing problems in schedule-driven environment under the constraints of detailed specifications and requirements to achieve the needed quality, delivered on schedule
  • Identify, shape, and develop manufacturing processes to lower risk as the product moves from its prototype/LRIP phase into FRP
  • Drive RCCAs alongside the quality team to eliminate production blockers and recurring issues

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or technology related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a relevant field of composite manufacturing in a development environment
  • Experience in multiple composite manufacturing processes including (but not limited to): filament winding, autoclave processing, VARTM, prepregs, and hydraulic press processing
  • A genuine interest in manufacturing and thirst for learning
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings including GD&T
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (NX preferred)
  • Experience with MS Office and/or project management software skills
  • Demonstrated in-kind or direct team leadership skills, with backing examples
  • Ability to be onsite, local to Morrisville, NC
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. TS clearance

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, automotive, and/or energetics facilities
  • Experience working within a AS9100/NADCAP accredited manufacturing facility
  • Proficiency in TeamCenter for digital manufacturing processes
  • Experience leading a team of engineers that interface with different IPTs (Manufacting Ops, Design, Supply Chain, etc)
  • Experience in bonded and/or fastened assemblies of composite, metallic, and plastic components
  • Understanding of CNC Machining operation and limitations – 5-axis routers, lathes, mills, etc
