This Senior Mechanical Engineer position is responsible for the physical design and sustainment of unmanned aircraft and related hardware systems. The role involves working closely with aircraft design to optimize system designs for performance, including composite fuselage, structural components, drivetrain, launch systems, and payloads. The engineer participates in all levels of product maturity from concept through manufacturing and flight testing, contributing to and leading team efforts in design, analysis, fabrication, and prototyping.

Responsibilities

This position will involve contributing to and leading in a team environment on the design, analysis, fabrication, prototyping, and flight testing of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and launch systems.
Individually perform, and coach others in all aspects of mechanical design
Component and assembly-level design and prototyping
System and sub-system design, modeling, and prototyping
Production drawings applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Review and approve designs, analyses, and engineering drawings

Requirements

Minimum B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
8+ years relevant industry experience
Experience performing in multiple aspects of the following:
3D CAD design, solid and surface modeling
Machine design fundamentals
Structural analysis utilizing hand calculations and finite element models
GD&T per ASME standards
Tolerance analysis
Design for manufacturing and assembly
Product Lifecycle Management and requirements Verification and Validation
Establishing and leveraging relationships with production and procurement teams
Eligible for DoD Secret Clearance

Nice to have

Defense, national security, or aerospace domain familiarity through industry or education
Experience leading projects from development through manufacturing and sustainment
Relevant experience in design or analysis of aerospace structures or subsystems
Experience leading engineering product teams
