The Field Service Representative (FSR) Systems Engineer II provides systems engineering, technical operations, and field support for DoD Airborne Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (AISR) Full Motion Video (FMV) systems supporting overseas operations in Stuttgart, Germany. The role involves administering Linux servers, network equipment, and mission applications, monitoring system health, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating with government personnel and U.S.-based engineering teams to maintain high system availability in a 24x7 operational environment.
Responsibilities
- Support the operation and sustainment of the AISR Full Motion Video architecture and associated mission applications.
- Perform day-to-day administration of Linux servers, applications, network equipment, and supporting infrastructure.
- Monitor system health and respond to incidents, alarms, and customer support requests.
- Perform routine maintenance, software updates, configuration changes, and operational checks.
- Support operation and maintenance of the FMV Cross Domain Solution (CDS) supporting data dissemination between U.S. and partner networks.
- Troubleshoot application, network, hardware, and operating system issues using established procedures and engineering guidance.
- Document technical issues, corrective actions, and lessons learned within Government-approved tracking systems.
- Escalate complex technical issues to senior engineering personnel and Tier III engineering organizations when appropriate.
- Coordinate with Government personnel, mission partners, and internal engineering teams to resolve operational issues.
- Support site surveys, equipment installations, system upgrades, technology refresh activities, and operational testing.
- Assist with implementation of approved engineering changes while maintaining configuration management requirements.
- Participate in operational readiness activities, system testing, and field validation efforts.
- Provide timely and accurate status updates regarding system performance, customer issues, and operational risks.
- Maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and engineering records.
Requirements
- Experience with TCP/IP networking concepts, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, and LAN/WAN troubleshooting.
- Experience with working with Linux operating systems (Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, Ubuntu, or equivalent).
- Experience administering enterprise applications and Linux-based servers.
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Experience troubleshooting hardware, operating systems, applications, and network connectivity issues.
- Ability to isolate technical problems using logs, monitoring tools, and diagnostic utilities.
- Experience supporting production information systems within a structured operational environment.
- Ability to document issues clearly and communicate effectively with engineering teams.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical discipline; or an Associate's degree with equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience supporting enterprise information systems, networking, systems administration, or technical operations.
- Experience supporting Linux and networked systems in a production environment.
- Active DoD TOP SECRET security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain SCI eligibility.
- Ability to travel as required to support overseas customer locations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Nice to have
- Experience supporting DoD or Intelligence Community systems.
