About Lucid Bots
Lucid Bots Inc. is an AI robotics company that extends human reach by building the world’s most productive and responsible robots. Our products allow people to perform dangerous and demanding tasks without compromising safety or efficiency.
Headquartered in Charlotte, we design, engineer, manufacture, and support our products domestically. Our current line of production-ready robots includes the Sherpa, a spraying drone, and the Lavo Bot, a pressure-washing ground-based robot. These systems are actively transforming operations for industrial customers around the world. Lucid Bots was recently recognized as the fourth fastest-growing manufacturing company in the United States.
We are venture-backed, with investments from Y Combinator (S19), Cubit Capital, Idea Fund Partners, Danu Ventures, and others. Learn more about our vision.

Role Objective
The Drone Engineer (Mechanical & Manufacturing) plays a critical role in transforming Lucid Bots’ robotic designs into scalable, manufacturable, and high-performance systems. Starting hands-on with product builds and process documentation, this role evolves into owning design-for-manufacturability (DFM), continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration between design, supply chain, and production. The ideal candidate bridges detailed mechanical engineering with a systems mindset and thrives in a fast-paced, hardware-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and test robotic and drone systems to gain firsthand understanding of product design, workflow, and quality checkpoints.
- Develop detailed work instructions, process documentation, and inspection standards that support repeatable, high-quality production.
- Analyze assembly performance, identify process inefficiencies, and recommend tooling, fixturing, or design improvements to enhance throughput and yield.
- Partner with design engineering to apply DFM/DFA principles across mechanical and electromechanical components.
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for manufacturing issues; translate findings into design or process updates.
- Collaborate with supply chain and vendors to optimize manufacturability, quality, and cost of key parts.
- Support engineering change reviews, design validation builds, and pilot production readiness.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar frameworks to scale production reliability and efficiency.
Skills & Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Mechatronics Engineering (or related).
- 2–5 years of experience in hardware manufacturing, robotics, or drone system development.
- Hands-on experience assembling, testing, or validating electro-mechanical systems.
- Working knowledge of fabrication and assembly processes: machining, injection molding, composites, cable harnessing, and PCB integration.
- Familiarity with DFM/DFA principles and process documentation.
- Analytical, data-driven mindset with strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.
Preferred
- Experience with drone or robotic hardware production environments.
- Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks or Onshape) and mechanical drawing standards.
- Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma or structured continuous improvement.
- Understanding of ESD, quality systems, and traceability requirements for production.
