This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Sydney CBD. There are approximately 380 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 500 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Netherlands, Denmark, Mexico and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.


About the role


The Drone Operations Team is seeking a drone operations support officer with relevant experience to join the team in Sydney, Australia. The position will report to the Chief Remote Pilot.

In this role, you’ll be instrumental in supporting our drone pilots during field operations, managing our expanding fleet of drones, and ensuring mission readiness across all platforms.

You will act as a spotter during drone operations, assist with mission logistics, and help maintain, troubleshoot, and prepare drones and associated equipment. A RePL (Remote Pilot Licence) is highly desirable, as you may also be required to assist in piloting duties.

This is a dynamic, field-and-office-based role that would suit someone with strong attention to detail, technical aptitude, and a genuine interest in drone technology and field operations, while also being happy to travel.


Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations 

  • Act as a visual observer (spotter) during drone operations across NSW.
  • Assist with pre-mission planning, logistics, and site setup.
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of drones, ground stations, and associated gear.
  • Coordinate the drone inventory, including tagging, maintaining, and preparing drone airframes at testing facilities and Sydney CBD office
  • Support documentation, compliance, and reporting related to flight logs, maintenance records, and CASA requirements.
  • Assist with flight operations where required (if RePL qualified).
  • Work closely with drone pilots, engineers, and operations teams to ensure smooth deployment and field days.
  • Candidate should be willing to travel around NSW. Will not be required to work weekends.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills 

  • Current RePL (Remote Pilot Licence) and AROC (Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate) - Highly Desired
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude
  • Familiarity with drone hardware systems and radio communication equipment - Highly Desired
