This faculty leadership position oversees the Academic Career Academy flight programs at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Daytona Beach Campus. The Director of Flight Operations manages FAA regulatory compliance, instructional quality, curriculum alignment, and faculty development for private pilot ground school, unmanned aircraft systems coursework, and remote pilot operations. The role serves as the primary liaison to partner school flight faculty and ensures the highest standards of safety and educational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • The Assistant Professor and Director of Flight Operations is responsible for the management, administration, and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulatory compliance of all Embry-Riddle Academic Career Academy (ACA) flight programs. This includes oversight of:
  • Private Pilot Ground School (AS 121/ASCI 121)
  • Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS/UNSY) coursework
  • Remote Pilot Operations (FAA Part 107)
  • The Director ensures compliance with all applicable FAA regulations governing flight instruction and unmanned aircraft operations throughout the ACA network. The position provides leadership in instructional quality, curriculum alignment, faculty development, accreditation compliance, and student safety while serving as the University's primary liaison to partner school flight faculty.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Aviation, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Aerospace, Education, or a closely related field.
  • FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) or FAA Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI) and/or Basic Ground Instructor (BGI) certification (or Basic Flight Instructor, as applicable).
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot in Command Certificate.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FAA regulations governing flight instruction and unmanned aircraft operations.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and external educational partners.

Nice to have

  • Previous leadership or administrative experience in collegiate aviation or flight training.
  • Experience managing FAA-compliant aviation education programs.
  • Teaching experience in higher education.
  • Experience with curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation processes.
  • Familiarity with dual-enrollment or secondary aviation education programs.
  • Experience supporting faculty development and instructional quality initiatives.
  • Commitment to student success, aviation safety, and continuous improvement.
