The Manufacturing Test Engineer will develop, validate, and improve manufacturing test processes and equipment for electric propulsion systems. Reporting to the Team Lead, the role involves supporting production teams with test issues, analysing test data, and driving continuous improvement. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure robust, scalable production testing.
Responsibilities
- Develop, validate, and maintain manufacturing test processes, equipment, fixtures, and procedures for in-process and end-of-line product testing
- Support production teams with day-to-day test issues, fault finding, failure analysis, and rapid resolution of manufacturing test constraints
- Analyse test data, yield performance, and failure trends to identify root causes, reduce test escapes, and improve first-time pass rates
- Specify, source, debug, and commission test equipment, instrumentation, and tooling required to support new and existing manufacturing processes
- Create and maintain clear test specifications, standard work, control plans, work instructions, acceptance criteria, and supporting manufacturing documentation
- Work closely with Design Engineering, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, and external suppliers to ensure products and processes are designed for robust, repeatable manufacturing test
- Support new product introduction by defining test requirements, developing manufacturing test strategies, and ensuring equipment and processes are ready for production release
- Drive continuous improvement activities focused on test cycle time, equipment uptime, process capability, product quality, and manufacturing efficiency
- Ensure manufacturing test activities comply with applicable safety, quality, regulatory, and company requirements
- Train and support operators, technicians, and engineers in the correct use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of manufacturing test equipment and processes.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a manufacturing, production test, electrical test, or manufacturing engineering environment
- Experience developing, supporting, or improving manufacturing test processes, test equipment, fixtures, instrumentation, or automated test systems
- Strong fault-finding, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills in a production environment
- Good understanding of test data analysis, yield improvement, process capability through measurement study analysis or gauge R&R, and continuous improvement methods
- Familiarity with manufacturing documentation such as test specifications, work instructions, process flows, PFMEAs, control plans, and acceptance criteria
- Practical hands-on experience with bespoke equipment, tooling, automation, electrical systems, or electro-mechanical assemblies
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, or test requirements and translate them into robust manufacturing test solutions
- Confident working with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and cross-functional teams to define requirements and resolve technical issues
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and reports
- Self-motivated, results-orientated, and comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-moving manufacturing environment.
Nice to have
- A degree qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or HNC/HND and relevant experience
- Experience in an aerospace, automotive, defence, or other highly regulated manufacturing environment
- Experience with automated test systems, data acquisition, calibration, LabVIEW or similar test software, or production test programming
- Experience leading continuous improvement activities, Kaizen events, or Six Sigma projects
