We are looking for a hands-on and resilient Drone Flight Operations Technician to support and execute our drone operations in Norway. In this role, you will be responsible for maintenance, and deployment of our Meteodrone and Meteobase systems and for ensuring day-to-day operation. You will report to the Drone Maintenance Manager and work closely with operations and engineering teams, and external stakeholders to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable drone missions for high-quality weather data collection. If required, you will support the flight operations with piloting and monitoring of drone flights.
The ideal candidate enjoys practical fieldwork in sometimes harsh environmental conditions, has a solid technical understanding of drone systems, and is comfortable operating in dynamic environments, including outdoor and remote locations. In addition, the ideal candidate enjoys frequent traveling domestically as part of the role and is willing to do a training period of 1-3 months in Switzerland.
Technical Operations & Maintenance: Perform maintenance and repair of our Meteodrones and ground equipment in accordance with high-quality standards (e.g. AS/EN 9100 environment). Maintain accurate maintenance records, flight logs, and technical documentation. Expect frequent travel to remote locations across Norway.
Deployment & Installation: Support the installation, setup, and relocation of Meteodrone systems across Norway. Ensure proper configuration and calibration of all hardware components.
Field Maintenance & Independent Work: Conduct fieldwork in varying weather and environmental conditions, including cold and arctic conditions. Take ownership of technical tasks and operate safely as a lone worker in remote locations while maintaining strong situational awareness.
Flight Operations: Support and conduct UAV operations both remotely (from the operations center) and in the field (e.g. demos, campaigns). The role may involve work outside normal working hours in connection with operations and field activities.
Team Work & Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including engineering and operations, as well as external partners. Represent the company’s interests while maintaining a professional demeanor.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve operational processes, reliability, and safety. Contribute to the development of best practices and technical procedures.
Technical Background: Experience or education in drone operations, aviation, electronics, engineering, or a similar technical field. Hands-on mindset with strong problem-solving skills and high quality standards.
Drone Operations Experience: Initial experience with UAV operations is beneficial. A willingness to learn and develop operational expertise is essential.
Certifications: Valid drone pilot certification (e.g. EASA A1/A3, A2, STS, or equivalent) or willingness to obtain. Driver’s license required (Category B, BE is a plus).
Technical Skills: Good understanding of electronics and mechanical components. Ability to troubleshoot and perform minor repairs independently. Basic understanding of UAV systems.
Regulatory Awareness: Familiarity with European aviation regulations (EASA) is an advantage.
Travel & Flexibility: Willingness to travel regularly and on short notice, if required, within Norway (1-4 times a month, with 1-5 days per trip) and occasionally internationally. Comfortable with handling equipment in the Norwegian outdoors and in changing weather conditions.
Communication: Good communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Fluent in English; Norwegian is a plus.
Working Permit: Valid Norwegian or EU/EEA working permit required.
