Tampa is a defence-customer town for the drone industry. With US Special Operations Command and Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base, UAS makers and contractors want staff within driving distance of the people who buy and field their aircraft. That shows up in the listings as engineering technicians, electrical engineers and robotics co-ops at a defence UAS manufacturer, programme, production and warehouse managers at a tactical-drone maker, and acquisition analysts, mission solutions engineers and autonomy product owners working directly on special operations programmes.
Around that core, Tampa Bay has a commercial side too. Drone delivery operators are building out the metro, hiring field sales, partner success, maintenance and ground-handling staff, a drone light-show company is based in the city, and the regional utility runs a drone and diagnostics centre with student internships. It is a smaller market than the big California and Texas metros, but an unusually close one to its customers.

## **Questions, answered **
- **Why does Tampa have drone jobs?**
- MacDill Air Force Base hosts US Special Operations Command and Central Command, two of the most active buyers of small and tactical drones. UAS manufacturers and defence contractors keep offices nearby for programme support, business development and engineering.
- **What kinds of drone jobs are in Tampa?**
- Engineering and production technicians, electrical and robotics engineers, programme and production managers at tactical-drone makers, plus acquisition analysts, mission solutions engineers and autonomy product roles on special operations contracts.
- **Are there drone pilot jobs in Tampa?**
- Some, and they are varied: search-and-rescue UAS pilots, drone show pilots, and drone delivery ground handling and maintenance roles in the suburbs. Commercial flying needs a Part 107 certificate, and Tampa’s Class B airspace makes LAANC authorisations routine.
- **Do Tampa drone jobs require a security clearance?**
- Roles tied to special operations programmes at MacDill often require one, or at least US citizenship. Manufacturing, delivery and drone show work generally does not.
