Senior Robotics Engineer (m/f/d) – Drone Port

Als Senior Robotics Engineer entwickeln Sie die Intelligenz der Drone Port Plattform, die autonomes Starten, Landen, Laden und die Missionsbereitschaft von UAVs ermöglicht. Sie arbeiten an Wahrnehmungsalgorithmen, Regelungssystemen, eingebetteter Software und Sensorintegration, um zuverlässige autonome Verhaltensweisen in realen Umgebungen zu schaffen. In enger Zusammenarbeit mit Experten aus Mechanik, Elektronik, Systemtechnik, Flugsteuerung, Embedded Software, KI und Flugtest gestalten Sie eines der fortschrittlichsten autonomen Drohneninfrastrukturprodukte. Ihre Arbeit beeinflusst direkt die Zukunft vollautonomer BVLOS-Operationen und skalierbarer Drohnenbereitstellungen weltweit.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement robotic capabilities enabling fully autonomous Drone Port operation.
• Develop perception algorithms for precision landing, docking, localisation and environmental awareness.
• Design and optimize closed-loop control algorithms for ground-based robotic systems and UAV interactions.
• Develop embedded software for sensors, actuators and hardware interfaces.
• Integrate cameras, ranging sensors, IMUs, encoders and additional perception sensors into the overall system architecture.
• Develop robust sensor fusion algorithms for reliable operation under varying environmental conditions.
• Design and validate communication interfaces between the Drone Port, aircraft and cloud infrastructure.
• Develop software for autonomous system monitoring, diagnostics and fault detection.
• Support hardware bring-up, integration and system validation in laboratory and field environments.
• Analyse test results, debug complex system behaviour and continuously improve system robustness.
• Collaborate closely with Mechanical, Electrical and Systems Engineering throughout the complete product development lifecycle.
• Support flight and field testing of autonomous Drone Port capabilities.
• Contribute to software architecture, coding standards and engineering best practices.
• Mentor junior engineers and actively contribute to the technical growth of the robotics team.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline.
• Several years of professional experience developing robotic or autonomous systems.
• Strong programming skills in modern C++ and Python.
• Experience developing embedded software in C/C++.
• Strong understanding of robotics fundamentals including:
• Perception
• State estimation
• Sensor fusion
• Motion planning
• Feedback control
• Experience with robotic middleware such as ROS or ROS2.
• Experience integrating cameras, IMUs, LiDAR, UWB, radar or similar sensors.
• Familiarity with computer vision libraries such as OpenCV.
• Experience implementing real-time control systems.
• Experience with machine learning for robotic perception.
• Experience with Linux-based embedded systems.
• Familiarity with Git and modern CI/CD development workflows.
• Strong systems thinking and the ability to work across software, electronics and mechanics.
• Experience with autonomous vehicles, UAVs, industrial robotics, mobile robots or automated machinery is highly desirable.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Fluent English
