SAIC is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support the UAVIO program at NIWC-Pac, Naval Base Point Loma. The role involves hands-on integration of RF systems and payloads onto unmanned systems, hardware architecture design, SWaP analysis, and lab testing. Additionally, the engineer will serve as Configuration Manager, managing configuration changes and drafting technical documentation such as ICDs and test plans. The position aims to offload administrative burden from the government engineering team through process improvement.

Responsibilities

  • RF integrated circuits/systems & Payload Integration: Hands-on integration of RF systems, software-defined radios (SDRs), antennas, and computing nodes onto unmanned systems (air and surface).
  • Hardware architecture design and development of electronic/RF assemblies
  • SWaP Analysis & Power: Assess and manage Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) constraints, power distribution, and data routing for small form-factor tactical payloads.
  • Lab & Bench Testing: Utilize standard test equipment (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, multi-meter and oscilloscopes) to validate system performance, troubleshoot EMI/EMC issues, and conduct bench testing.
  • Serve as Configuration Manager for the UAVIO Project who will identify, organize, and control software and hardware configuration changes. During the execution of these requirements, through access to documentation such as mechanical and/or electrical drawings, assembly drawings, manuals, etc., the Configuration Manager may be exposed to other contractors’ proprietary information.
  • Configuration Management (CM): Establish and maintain configuration control of hardware baselines, software versions, and engineering change proposals (ECPs) for our payloads.
  • Technical Documentation: Draft, review, and finalize high-level technical documentation, including Interface Control Documents (ICDs), system block diagrams, wiring schematics, and formal test plans/reports.
  • Process Improvement: Help standardize the documentation pipeline to offload the administrative burden from the government engineering team.
