About the Role

Are you a seasoned industrial drone pilot that thrives in complex environments and on the lookout for a role where you can shape the future of drone operations across Australia? We’re looking for a Senior Remote Pilot & Technical Specialist to join our cutting-edge team and help transform how technology supports safety, efficiency, and insight across Alcoa’s regional operations.

Reporting to our Chief Remote Pilot, you will have the opportunity to support, develop and deploy drone capabilities across Australian operations. From crafting procedures and training packages to pioneering new tech applications, this role is a blend of strategic thinking, high precision hands-on piloting, and technical leadership.

You’ll be the go-to expert for integrating drone solutions into asset monitoring, environmental management, safety, mining, and production - driven by both customer needs and your own insight into emerging opportunities.

Your key purpose and contributions will be:

  • Developing proposals and submissions for new operating capabilities, including drafting, consulting and negotiating with CASA.

  • Overseeing day-to-day flight operations, reviewing and approving flight plans in line with regulations and internal procedures.

  • Identifying and implementing drone technology solutions across business units.

  • Leading deployment of new drone/sensor technologies, including documentation, licensing, and regulatory approvals.

  • Delivering training packages and coaching experienced operators and citizen pilots.

  • Collaborating with the workforce and specialist pilots to deliver complex, high-impact solutions.

  • Driving safety initiatives and ensuring compliance in industrial environments.

What you can bring to the role

  • CASA Remote Pilot Licence for 25kg+ aircraft (150kg preferred) with endorsements such as OONP, EVLOS, and BVLOS OCTA considered advantageous.

  • Minimum 500 hours of drone piloting and 200+ hours in industrial inspection environments; experience with DJI and Flyability equipment highly desirable.

  • Operational and regulatory expertise with proven capability operating under a ReOC, with demonstrated collaboration with CASA and familiarity with manned aviation considered advantageous.

  • Strong track record in developing and deploying drone technologies, with the ability to integrate data into business management systems and previous experience in training development and delivery.

  • Tertiary qualifications in technical /engineering or business disciplines (preferred), with the physical capability to work safely in varied outdoor industrial conditions.

  • Willingness to travel with a flexible work approach and a valid Australian Driver’s Licence, enabling site visits across the South-West of WA and to Alcoa’s Portland Smelter in Victoria as needed.
