Job Description

As a Software Engineer at Shield AI, you will play a critical role in developing, integrating, and validating software for advanced autonomous aircraft and mission systems. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to design robust, scalable software solutions that drive the capabilities of next-gen unmanned systems. This role demands technical excellence, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to delivering high-quality products for national defense applications.

What You'll Do

Design, develop, and implement software for autonomous aircraft systems and mission-critical applications
Integrate software with avionics, autonomy algorithms, sensor payloads, and hardware components
Collaborate with systems engineers, hardware teams, and other stakeholders to define software requirements and interfaces
Participate in code and design reviews, ensuring adherence to best practices and relevant standards
Support software integration testing, simulation, and real-world flight tests
Engage in troubleshooting, debugging, and optimizing software performance
Contribute to trade studies, system architecture discussions, and product roadmaps

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
3+ years of experience developing and integrating embedded or systems-level software (aerospace or defense domain preferred)
Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., C++, Python)
Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS), embedded Linux, or similar platforms
Familiarity with version control tools, CI/CD workflows, and modern development practices
Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and fast-paced environments
Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a relevant field
Experience in developing software for unmanned aerial systems, avionics, autonomy, or AI-driven platforms
Knowledge of DO-178C or other safety-critical software standards
Exposure to model-based software development, DevOps, or test automation
Prior work on government or defense programs
Active Secret or Top Secret clearance
