The Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IME), part of the Faculty of Engineering at the
University of Southern Denmark, offers a part-time position, 10 hours pr week (15.09.2025 – 30.06.2026) as a Student Helper
for computer vision as part of the Drone Mechatronics team, in direct correlation with existing drone activities.
The Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering is located in the inspiring building of Alsion that is
place of residence for a number of enterprises in the Science Park: South Jutland Symphony Orchestra and
the concert hall of Alsion. Thus, the university has close bonds to the industrial as well as the
cultural environment of Sønderborg.
In line with a new strategic track of the Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the
institute is seeking to expand its activities related to drone operations in selected defense related applications carried
out by the Drone Mechatronics team. Therefore we are looking for an experienced student with skills in programming
and drone operations.
Alongside strong coding competences, the employee is expected to have insight in creation of synthetic drone datasets
using Unreal Engine, as well experience in operating and prototyping drones.
As the drone activities do not relate to a single application, knowledge of adjacent areas of expertise becomes essential
in such a broad engineering landscape.
Assignments of the Student Helper in computer vision for drones:
- Create drone datasets for machine learning
- Scripting with Unreal Engine for synthetic dataset creation
- Assisting with the implementation of communication protocols between vision systems and drone controllers
- Assisting with the implementation of smart telemetry
The following qualifications and skills are strong assets:
