Swarm Aero is building autonomous aircraft and Legion, a command and control software for coordinating large numbers of heterogeneous autonomous systems. As an Embedded Software Intern, you will own a scoped project with a clear technical outcome, working directly with the engineers responsible for the system and presenting your work at the end of the summer. You will develop C or C++ software for embedded avionics, vehicle systems, sensing, communications, or test equipment, bring up peripherals and interfaces, write drivers and hardware-abstraction layers, and use debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers to find problems. The role is on-site in Oxnard and focuses on software that runs next to sensors, networks, and aircraft hardware.

Responsibilities

· Develop C or C++ software for embedded avionics, vehicle systems, sensing, communications, or test equipment
· Bring up peripherals and interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet, or other serial and network protocols
· Write drivers, services, diagnostics, simulation components, or hardware-abstraction layers
· Use debuggers, logs, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG tools to find problems
· Contribute to software-in-the-loop or hardware-in-the-loop testing and verification

Requirements

· Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field, with graduation and enrollment requirements to be confirmed.
· Strong programming fundamentals and experience in C or C++
· Coursework or project experience with embedded systems, operating systems, computer architecture, or real-time software
· A project where you wrote software that interacted with hardware and can explain how you debugged it
To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

· An RTOS such as FreeRTOS, VxWorks, Zephyr, or QNX
· Linux, device drivers, networking, robotics, controls, or avionics
· Python-based test automation, CI, simulation, or model-based development
