The Field Integration Technician will deploy, configure, and troubleshoot unmanned systems (aerial, ground, nautical) in field operations. They will perform real-time software integration, lead diagnostics, collaborate with engineering teams, and write scripts to support mission-specific automation. The role bridges hardware and software domains in a dynamic, fast-paced defense tech environment.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure, and troubleshoot unmanned systems in field operations, including aerial, ground, and nautical platforms.
  • Perform real-time system software integration and modifications using platforms such as Betaflight, ArduPilot, and other open-source or proprietary flight control systems.
  • Lead diagnostic and troubleshooting efforts for hardware, firmware, and software in field environments, ensuring rapid resolution and minimal downtime.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to validate system performance and implement field-driven improvements.
  • Write and modify scripts and software (Python, C++) to support mission-specific automation and control.
  • Integrate automation algorithms and protocols into live systems, ensuring robust performance in complex environments.
  • Implement and troubleshoot MAVLink communication protocols for telemetry, command, and control of unmanned systems.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of field activities, system configurations, and integration outcomes.

Requirements

  • Proven experience with unmanned systems design, build, integration, and deployment.
  • Proficiency in configuring and tuning flight controllers (ArduPilot, PX4, etc.).
  • Strong programming skills, with an emphasis on automation, control systems, and embedded development.
  • Hands-on experience with MAVLink in real-world applications.
  • Familiarity with RF communications, telemetry systems, and sensor integration.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to technical challenges.
  • Strong understanding of embedded Linux systems and deployment processes.
  • Proficiency in network systems configuration, routing, and diagnostics across Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and telemetry links.
  • Strong understanding of Linux networking (netplan, iptables, systemd-networkd) and command-line administration.
  • Experience with VPNs, firewalls, and secure remote access for unmanned and distributed systems.
  • Deep understanding of UAV hardware ecosystems, including flight controllers (ArduPilot/PX4), sensors (IMUs, GPS, cameras), and communication systems.
  • Experience working with microcontrollers, SoCs, and platforms like Raspberry Pi or similar.
  • Familiarity with hardware interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, and GPIO.
  • Solid understanding of hardware-software integration in resource-constrained environments.
  • Background in RF engineering, IoT communication protocols; practical experience preferred over formal education, but both are a plus.
  • Configuration and troubleshooting of IP networks for UAS (Ethernet, CAN, UDP, MAVLink-over-IP, etc.)
  • Willingness to travel and support field demonstrations (expected 40%).

Nice to have

  • Unmanned systems, robotics or multi-agent coordination systems;
  • Background in electrical or mechanical engineering, computer science, or related fields; degree is not required - equivalent field experience is preferred.

Benefits

  • Your work ships fast and gets used. Direct operational feedback from users in weeks, not years
  • A fast-paced environment with minimal bureaucracy and no “process for the sake of process”
  • Competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package (insurance, paid sick leave, 20 paid days off per year)
  • Flexible remote work options where possible
