How to Write a Drone Pilot Job Description That Attracts Qualified Applicants (+ Template)
Write a drone pilot job description that attracts certified applicants. A clear structure plus a free, copy-paste template you can post today.
A drone pilot job description does two jobs at once: it attracts qualified pilots and filters out unqualified ones. The more precise it is about certification, sector and location, the better your shortlist. This guide gives you the structure that works. We have also prepared a template that you can copy, complete and post on DroneJobs when publishing the role.
What a strong job description includes
1. A specific job title
Use the term pilots search for: "Drone Pilot", "UAV Operator", "Drone Survey Pilot". Add the sector if it narrows the field. Avoid vague internal titles.
2. The certification you require
State it explicitly — Part 107, A2 CofC/GVC, EASA competency, RPAS Basic/Advanced. This is the single biggest filter and signals you know the field.
3. The sector and type of work
Surveying, inspection, agriculture, film, delivery. Pilots specialise, and naming the sector attracts the right ones.
4. Location and travel
State the country and whether travel or specific-site work is involved. Certification requirements are country-specific, so this matters.
5. Responsibilities and deliverables
Describe the actual work and the output expected — orthomosaics, thermal reports, edited footage. Concrete is always better to get the right pilot for your company.
6. Equipment and insurance expectations
Say whether the pilot provides their own aircraft and insurance, or whether you do. This avoids mismatched applications.
7. Contract type and how to apply
Full-time, part-time, contract or freelance — and a clear next step.
8. About the company
It's always interesting to know a bit more about your company, values, philosophy, the team… Anything that makes the drone pilot say: I want to work there!
