Illinois drone work splits along the state’s two economies. Around Chicago, the biggest employer is drone delivery: residential programmes in the south suburbs hire ground handlers and flight monitors in recurring rounds, which makes Illinois one of the few states where entry-level operations roles appear regularly. Chicago’s contractors add construction demand, hiring reality capture, 3D scanning and virtual design and construction staff who fly sites as part of the job.
Downstate, Illinois is farm country. It is among the top corn and soybean producers in the US, and its agricultural cooperatives and seed companies hire agronomy and research staff who use drones for crop scouting, trials and field data. Commercial piloting anywhere in the state requires an FAA Part 107 certificate.
