Position Summary

Power Quality Drone Pilots are expected to perform and be proficient at flying out and analyzing all parts of the electric distribution system. Work is frequently near energized conductors and equipment requiring skill and safe work practices and procedures. The pilot must maintain a remote pilot certificate with a small UAS rating issued by the Federal Aviation Administration and must adhere to all state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

Primary Position Responsibilities

  • The following responsibilities are not all inclusive and the employee may perform other related tasks as required.
  • Inspects and analyzes the electric distribution system.
  • Works closely with members and property owners to access and inspect CoServ infrastructure.
  • Operate utility vehicles, and other specialized equipment and machinery used in the electric industry.
  • Creates work orders in Maximo to address any hazards or maintenance issues observed while inspecting the distribution system.
  • Must wear company owned body camera while operating a drone while performing line inspections.
  • Always adheres to the then-current CoServ UAS standard operating procedures.
  • Attends safety, classroom and field training provided by CoServ.
  • Maintains vehicles and tools as assigned.
  • Wears appropriate PPE and other safety equipment as necessary.
  • Attends regularly scheduled safety meetings.
  • Follows OSHA, NESC, CoServ specifications, safety procedures, and all federal, state and local standards.
  • Provides and updates GIS with the necessary field data to keep system maps current.
  • Complies with established CoServ safety and operating rules, procedures and guidelines including reporting unsafe practices to a supervisor.
  • Complies with established CoServ Information Security Handbook, policies, procedures, and guidelines including reporting suspected information security incidents to Tech Support.

Secondary Position Responsibilities

  • Completes the necessary documentation regarding construction and maintenance projects.
  • Maintains daily time log.
  • Must maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Attends CoServ University and industry training as required.
  • Reports hazards, injuries, illnesses, property damage and near misses to their supervisor.
  • Performs other duties and activities as directed.

Position Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalency.
  • 3 years construction/maintenance field experience of overhead distribution lines.

Education, Experience, and Certifications Preferred

  • Remote Pilot certificate with a small UAS rating issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.
  • Journeyman Lineman with 6 years construction/maintenance field experience of overhead distribution lines.

Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to understand and follow CoServ maps, CoServ safety manual, work orders, staking sheets, and any type of CoServ forms related to work being performed.
  • Ability to learn CoServ’s service area and distribution system.
  • Skills to utilize Microsoft Office, IBM Maximo and Drone to Map software.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and reasoning abilities.
  • Ability to learn CoServ's tariff policies that apply to Drone Pilots.

Skills and Abilities Preferred

  • Time logged piloting a drone or UAS

Physical Requirements

  • Works outdoors 95% of the time in all types of weather conditions and environmental conditions such as fallen branches, rough terrain, heavy underbrush, etc.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Drives company vehicle.
  • Works extended hours as needed or directed.
  • Works in no or low light conditions – using handheld lantern or spotlights.
  • Works in potentially hazardous conditions caused by pets and wildlife in or near the work site.
  • Works in areas with possible exposure to poison oak, poison ivy, and insect stings.
  • Performs call out duties as required.
  • Operates office equipment such as a computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, etc.

Other Requirements

  • Must have and maintain a valid Texas Driver's License.
