As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at eyesAtop, you will lead the mechanical design of drone payloads, ruggedized enclosures, and ground control stations. You will own the full lifecycle from CAD and prototyping to manufacturing, conduct thermal and stress simulations, and collaborate with systems, hardware, and software teams to expand into system integration and robotics.
Responsibilities
- End-to-End Design: Own the mechanical lifecycle for diverse, evolving projects. Design mechanisms, payloads, wiring and enclosures, from CAD model and prototyping to manufacturing and NPI handover. Take full ownership of the mechanical aspects of a project
- Complex Trade-Offs: Expertly navigate and optimize conflicting constraints, including Size, Weight, and Cost (SWaP-C), manufacturing complexity, thermal management, vibration isolation, and environmental sealing
- Simulation Capabilities: Bring in your expertise in thermal and structural analysis to establish and build our in-house simulation infrastructure
- Prototyping to Production: Seamlessly transition between building rapid Proofs-of-Concept (PoCs) in the lab and finalizing high-end, robust designs. Partner closely with the NPI team to ensure your designs are manufacturable and scalable
- Cross-Disciplinary Expansion: Step beyond pure mechanics to collaborate heavily with systems, hardware, and software teams, expanding your expertise into system integrations and robotics
Requirements
- B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of mechanical design experience in multidisciplinary, high-reliability fields (Aerospace, Defense, Drones, Robotics, or similar)
- Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks (or equivalent CAD tools)
- Deep understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes, specifically CNC machining, sheet metal, and additive manufacturing / 3D printing. (Ability to design specifically for manufacturability).
- Hands-on experience with FEA and thermal analysis tools, with the capability and drive to set up these workflows independently
- Proven track record of solving real-world challenges related to thermal dissipation, harsh vibrations, and environmental sealing (IP ratings/military standards) for electronics
Nice to have
- Experience with composite materials (e.g., carbon fiber design and manufacturing processes)
- Direct experience with drone payload integration, robotics, or complex moving mechanisms
- Familiarity with defense/military environmental testing standards (e.g., MIL-STD-810)
