This role involves performing field surveys, including boundary, topographic, and construction staking, while supervising a survey field crew. The Survey Crew Chief will operate various surveying instruments, ensure project deadlines and budgets are met, and apply safety standards. The position supports Professional Land Surveyors and Civil Engineers on diverse projects, with opportunities for career advancement toward professional licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate measurements and calculations.
  • Recording of field data.
  • Supervising survey field crew.
  • Ensuring completion dates and budgets are met.
  • Ensuring consistent application of Stantec’s operating standards and safety practices.
  • Utilizing Trimble Business Center to transfer data to the proper location in the computer network and to acquire data for field use.
  • Assist in the preparation of survey drawings using AutoCAD Civil3D software.
  • Identify hazardous situations and apply safety procedures and company standards.
  • Responsible for safe operation and maintenance of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Maybe required to drive company or personal vehicle to reach job sites.

Requirements

  • Experience performing field boundary, topographic, land title surveys, and construction staking.
  • Well-developed understanding of field survey methods and calculations.
  • Ability to operate Trimble Data Collectors, GPS, Robotic Total Stations, and relevant survey equipment.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D, Trimble Business Center and related software.
  • Excellent cooperative skills and working efficiently with a team.
  • Strong skills in communication, time management, organization, and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Associate degree or technical school diploma/certificate in a related program with a minimum of 3 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
