Tangram Flex is seeking a Mid-Level Software Engineer to join a team focused on open mission systems integration, interoperability, and verification. The role involves designing, developing, testing, and documenting high-quality software, optimizing system resources, and building deep expertise in Tangram Flex products. The engineer will support end-to-end system testing, participate in Agile SDLC events, and collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers to refine requirements and resolve technical issues. This position requires strong technical skills and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders throughout the program lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Design & Coding: Design, develop, test, and document high-quality software using relevant languages (C/C++, Java, Python, Rust).
  • Resource Optimization: Analyze design approaches to improve the efficiency, stability, and scalability of system resources for new and existing products.
  • Core Product Mastery: Build and maintain deep technical expertise in Tangram Flex products to support internal systems, customer deployments, and live demonstrations.
  • System Testing & Analysis: Support end-to-end system testing, performance analysis, and troubleshooting across integrated hardware/software setups.
  • Agile Participation: Active participant in Agile SDLC events, including sprint planning, daily progress tracking, technical reviews, and integration events.
  • Engineering Collaboration: Partner closely with software, systems, and cross-functional teams to refine system requirements, design choices, and system characteristics.
  • Technical Guidance & Support: Provide technical support and product guidance to customer engineers, resolving issues in line with company values and business goals.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Translate customer requirements for internal teams (engineering, product, sales) and clearly articulate technical findings, project statuses, and demos to both technical and business audiences.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering or equivalent technical field.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of software engineering experience collaborating effectively within high-functioning technical teams.
  • Security Clearance: U.S. Citizenship required; must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance.
  • Object-Oriented Design & Programming: Deep experience with C, C++, Java, or Object-Oriented Design principles.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of work time to client sites, customer locations, and industry conferences as required.
  • Work Location based in Dayton, Ohio

Nice to have

  • Languages & Infrastructure: Knowledge of or interest in Docker, Java, Go, Rust, Haskell, and network communications technology.
  • Testing & Quality Assurance: Familiarity with modern software test approaches, including unit testing, static analysis, fuzz testing, and symbolic execution.
  • Experience with communication & proposals; high level written and verbal communication skills to author or contribute to technical documentation, support proposal development, and present to external customers.
  • Open Architectures & Standards: Understanding of or interest in DoD Open Architecture standards (e.g., OMS, FACE).
  • - Autonomous Systems & Simulation: Familiarity with UAV/autonomous systems, relevant messaging formats (e.g., MAVLink), and simulation frameworks (e.g., AFSIM).
  • Embedded & Subsystem Integration: Hands-on experience integrating sub-system components, embedded systems, and toolchains like Simulink.
